A joint initiative between Coca-Cola Beverages Nepal and Splash Nepal to provide clean, safe drinking water and build an urban resilient community through rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge in Narayani Model Secondary School in Chitwan.

Kathmandu 9th October 2023- Coca-Cola Beverages Nepal with implementing team from Splash Nepal has handed over the Rainwater Harvesting, Groundwater Recharge and clean drinking water project to Narayani Model Secondary School in Chitwan. The collaborative project which commenced on September, 2023 has successfully concluded on 5th October 2023 with a handover event held at Narayani Model Secondary School in the presence of Mr. Parmeshwor Khanal, Ward No- 10 Chairperson.

Catering to over 3800 students with both day-scholars and residential students, Narayani Model Secondary School is one of the largest model community school in Chitwan where water is heavily required for day to day activities. Through the project, 2 UF Filter systems along with drinking water supply in 12 taps of bottle fillers and 8 Bubbler Faucet taps attached with 4 water stations with dual spouts respectively have been installed in the facility. The system will result to benefit over 5000 people including students and school members. The expected volume of potential water recharge, through the project is 18 lakh liters annually.

Alongside, 7 FATS (Seven Flag Approach for Total Sanitation Program) was conducted by creating a child clubs. The child club members were provided with a training program on the School WASH Program. The goal for this program is to help school achieve the 3 Star Status under a program initiated by the Government of Nepal in rating the schools based upon the WASH Infrastructure in the school. The program would help the school achieve the good results in the 3 Star Program. Likewise, a training session for maintenance of the filtration system by the school was also provided.

We hope the water that will be recharged to the grounds and the drinking water that will be supplied make a difference to both nature and the students here- making the community more water resilient for now and the future.”

Mr. Pradeep Khadka, Executive Director of Splash Nepal shared, “The overall project would not only help students with an easy accessibility to clean safe drinking water but would also help school achieve good results under 3 Star Program. The commitment from the school in maintaining the system is a major component towards sustainability.”
