Kathmandu: Under the ongoing ceasefire agreement, Hamas is set to release four Israeli female soldiers today (Saturday). Israel is preparing to welcome the return of the four women held captive by Hamas. The released soldiers include 20-year-olds Karina Eriv, Daniela Gilboa, Nama Levi, and 19-year-old Liri Albag. Israeli officials have informed the families of the captives about the progress of their release. However, 29-year-old Arbel Yehud is not included in the list of releases, as she is believed to be held by Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
Hamas expects approximately 200 Palestinian prisoners to be released by Israel today. Among them are 120 individuals serving life sentences and 80 with severe sentences.
The four female soldiers were abducted from the Nahal Oz military base. Of the seven initially captured, one, Ori Megidish, has already been rescued, while Noa Marciano was killed. Agam Berger remains in captivity and is expected to be released on Sunday. A video of the abduction of these women was publicly circulated. The Hostage and Missing Families Forum welcomed the news of the release and expressed hope for the return of all captives.
As part of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement, three hostages—Emily Damari (28), Romi Gonen (24), and Doron Steinbrecher (31)—were already released earlier. In response, Israel has released 90 Palestinian prisoners.
The first phase of the ceasefire agreement is expected to last another five weeks. During this period, including today’s four releases, a total of 30 Israeli hostages and hundreds of Palestinian prisoners are to be freed. Under the agreement, the Israeli forces will withdraw from some parts of Gaza, and the flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza will be increased.
