15 July, Kathmandu. Fencer Nada Hafeez from Egypt disclosed that she participated in the Olympics in Paris while seven months pregnant. Hafeez won her first women’s solo sabre bout at the age of 26. However, she lost in the final 16. She revealed that she is seven months pregnant in an Instagram post.
“Although there were three players, you can only see two of them on the podium. There were hurdles for me, my competitor, and my unborn child, she added. “There were challenges both physically and mentally for my child and me.” While the pregnancy rollercoaster is no joke, trying to strike a balance between life and athletics was as challenging.
Hafeez, a native of Cairo, was competing in her third consecutive Olympics. Hafeez expressed her pride in competing and making it to the last 16. In the opening match, she triumphed 15–13 over Elizabeth Tartakovsky of America. However, Jeon Hyeong of South Korea defeated her in the following match, 15–7. According to Hafeez, this Olympics are unique. Olympian three times. However, carrying the tiny “Little Olympian” this time around was unique, the author noted.
